WELCOME ... (and farewell)
This will be the last post for the foreseeable future. I have run out of things to write. My self-imposed rule for the site was to only post essays along the lines of …the best possible policy for the problem of X is Y, and here is why. By definition, one can post only one such essay per topic. Admittedly there are topics still to cover, however, unfortunately, I have no “best” policy to propose on any of those other topics.

My goal at the time of starting this site was to come up with 10 essays. I am proud to note that I exceeded my goal. The easiest criticism of these essays is that they are simplistic. I am a firm believer in Einstein’s dictum that one should make things as simple as possible, but not simpler.

My biggest regret about most of the essays is that they are so long. All have been heavily edited, but I still wish they were shorter.

My favorites in terms of idea content are the first two I posted – essays on campaign finance reform and the war on drugs. If a genie granted me only two wishes to make any of my ideas become law, it would be those two. My favorite in terms of writing is the essay on gay marriage. The idea content in that one, unlike the others, is not original. It got posted in the first place, and stays posted, only because I thought I captured exactly the right tone for the essay.

I invite one and all to stay and browse. While I have no intent to post for a long while, I will check my email from time to time if you have anything to say.
